GPT Taipei 26 June 2005 Report
First of all, gw lagi ga ada kerjaan selama liburan ini jadinya ya gw isenk2 buat report ini sekalian latian sapa tau nanti kalo udah ditranslate bisa dikasih ke web2 lain juga, ahha. GPT Taipei merupakan international event kedua dalam season ini di Indonesia especially Jakarta setelah sebelomnya diadakan GPT Matsuyama di tempat yang sama beberapa bulan yang lalu. Waktu itu, sebenernya saya malas untuk mengikuti event ini, kenapa ? alasannya adalah hari sabtu itu sehari sebelom event saya masih ada di kota Kudus (ahhaha really far away) dan saya baru pulang ke Jakarta hari minggunya jam 9 pagi saya baruu mendarat di Jakarta dan waktu itu saya paksakan untuk langsung jalan ke Kafe Oke karena ga bakal sempet saya kesono kalo pulang ke rumah dulu. Akhirnya jam setengah sebelas kurang beberapa menit saya baru nyampe ke kafe oke.
Setiba saya disana, ternyata sudah dilakukan deck list dan yang lebih parah adalah “saya lupa membawa deck Gift's Ungiven 4 colour saya, jadi akhirnya mao ga mao saya menghubungi ngenges, saya bermaksud meminjam deck apapun miliknya yang masih sisa karena dari pagi dia sudah membuka jasa sewa deck miliknya, kalo dia udah abies ya udah saya pulang saja dan mudah – mudahan saya bisa meminjam lagi deck suicide black miliknya yang baru saya pakai menjuarai sebuah FNM di CnG minggu lalu, begitu pikir saya, dan akhirnya dia ternyata masih ada satu deck sisa yaitu deck honden ya udah daripada ga ada mending saya pake aja deck itu nanti kalo kalah 2 round berturut turut saya tinggal drop saja begitu piker saya pertama kali akrena reputasi deck honden yang kurang terkenal dan temponya yang begitu lambat.
Pertama- tama setelah melihat deck miliknya secara keseluruhan saya melakukan hanya sedikit sekali perubahan pada landnya karena untuk yg lain saya rasa sudah stabil dan cukup inovatif dan yang paling mendasar adalah decknya dia belom dibuat sideboardnya, ya sudah akhirnya saya terpaksa buka – buka folder saya dan memasukan beberapa kartu yang saya anggap penting ke sideboard dan dalam hati saya hanya berkata, “semoga berguna, and this is just for fun don't be serious, u don't have any targets in this event”. Honden berbagai macam: Jelas kan ? Ini adalah inti dari deck
Meishin Mind's cage : Di mid/late game dicari menggunakan enduring Ideal untuk menahan lawan specially yg badak – badak dan synergy dengan honden biru.
Genju of the realm & Meloku Clouded Miror: satu – satunya striker saya kalo honden merah sudah mati, meloku clouded Mirror saya rasa semua sudah tau reputasi dari kartu yang satu ini sedangkan genju of the realm dicari pake enduring ideal juga jadinya 8/12 trample sapa coba yang bisa tahan ? land ancur juga balik lagi ahaha.
Reverence : Anti White weenie yang makin menjamur
Ghostly prison: Menahan serangan deck2 agro yang bermacam – macam di awal2 game
Final Judgment: CLEAR THE BOARD, anti naga
Sensei divining top & sakura tribe elder & kodama's reach : mencari land dan keduanya synergy dengan sensei divining top Karena susunan top deck ikut berubah
Enduring Ideal : Mencari Enchantment yang masih tertidur di deck
Tendo ice bridge : Mana Fixers, saya memakai deck yg menggunakan 5 macam mana.
Night of soul betrayal : Anti ama Mono black Agro, saya punya pengalaman buruk dengan deck ini (punya victor dolo pas Kamigawa Block Major tourney disini juga)
Patron of kitsune : Synergy dengan Meloku clouded Mirror, gain life for every token meloku nyerang ahhaha.
Boseiju, who shelter all: saya ingin mengantisipasi kalo ketemu ama Ricky The defending Champion of kamigawa block Constructed major tourney biar enduring ideal saya masuk karena dia pake U/B control dan mungkin deck2 lain yang berbau counter.
Other basic land : untuk mengantisipasi deck LD, meskipun metagame ini belum ada.
Nah sekian penjelasan tentang deck saya berikut ini saya akan cerita pengalaman saya di tourney ini, first pairing dilaksanakan jam 11.00 kurang beberapa menit, tapi tak lama sesudah pairing dilakukan, dilakukan pairing ulang karena ada new player has come Daniel “Bro” Andreas with his reanimate deck yang mengandalkan Goryo's Vengeance dan Slumbering Tora, satu sebagai alat discard dan satu alat reanimate.
First Match: Wisnu “ Kai” Arbani - Zubera's deck
Lawan saya pertama ini sudah saya kenal lama karena pernah bertanding 2x di event JSS di CnG. Dia menggunakan combo zubera yang disac pake devouring greed untuk membunuh lawan ato pake lifespinner untuk manggil the unspeakable atau Spirit2 besar lainnya lalu ditambah backup dari death denied untuk mengambil lagi zuberanya. 1 st Round, dimulai dengan pembukaan dari sakura tribe elder dan boardnya dia sudah ada thieft of hope ama 2 zubera sementara saya baru ada honden merah dan honden hijau, tapi kemudian dia distress tangan saya dan dia menarik final judgment, duh dan honden – honden saya dibereskan dengan wear away miliknya, trus abies itu dia devouring greed zubera2 miliknya kec tinggal si thieft of hope dan tiba2 saya cast meloku, clouded mirror yang membuat situasi berbalik dan board dia Cuma ada 1 token spirit dari zuber ijo dan thieft of hope. Nah ketika lifenya tinggal 10 dan meloku saya sudah ada 8 token, dan ini turn terakhirnya dia karena kalo enga dia bakal dibunuh meloku (ups revisi, anaknya meloku), dia top decking Hana Kami yang lalu mengambil devouring greed dan pas sekali life saya tinggal 8 karena efek dari thieft of hope maka saya lose 6 life + 2 life. He's really lucky but after all it's a Good Game. 2 nd round: dia harus paris dahulu karena hadnnya bermasalah dan akibatnya dia tertinggal tempo, setelah boardnya sedikit stabil karena ada thieft of hope, 3 zubera dan 1 lifespinner (dia baru cast lifespinner) dan board saya belom ada satupun honden hanya ada 3 ghostly prison yang menghambat dia, tiba2 saya cats final judgment (yes, ahah), lalu sesudah itu saya cast enduring ideal dan tidak lama susudah itu dia concede. On to round 3: saya cast hondne of cleansing fire pagi2 jadinya devouring greednya bisa saya buat kit antara life yang hilang dengan gain life. Tapi tiba2 time's up, lalu saya langsung menanyakan ke dia karena boardnya dia sudah saya final judgment lagi, I ask him: Can u Kill me in the next three turn cause I can't kill u, and after he thinks he said : u're life is 24 and I think it's impossible to kill u, so we end up draw ? and then I shake his hand and the result is draw urgh not bad. Btw I didn't do any sideboarding in this game.

2 nd Match: Ramadi Widyardiono - W/R Samurai Agro
in the 1 st Round: I start with sakura tribe elder and then he answer with samurai of plae curtain, and then I sac my elder to get a fresh plains from my deck and then I cast my ghostly prison that start to slow him down, after I cast my 2 nd ghostly prison and the next round honden of cleansing fire and continuously with other honden in the next round he conceded although he has konda's hatamoto, sensei golden tail and much more samurai because I gain more life than what he damaged me.

Disini saya melakukan kesalahan karena tadinya saya pikir bahwa text reverence adalah “creatures with attack power 2 or less cann't attack” padahal ada kata “you” di bagian terakhir, maklum lagi buru2.
2 nd Round: Same like the first round it just he shuffle my deck like a poker player style, so I just stunned for a moment and think what would I say to ngenges if his card was not mint again or even near mint, buat he look at me anda said, just do the same thing with his deck but I cann't and the I just do the usual shuffle style. In this game he sideboarded Kami of ancient law that always comes up and destroy my ghostly prison so he keep u damaging me, honden of cleansing fire was come too late, I cann't gain life more than what he make my life lose.

3 rd Round: He still do the same thing like the previous match, cast his kitsune blademaster, sensei golden tail, and 2 konda's hatamoto. But Luckily my sideboard has come up, patron of kitsune and accompanied with my friendly meloku, although he has make me lose 10 life or more, Meloku's sons/daughters make my life back into normal and then after the board is settled I cast honden of Night's reach, luckily it catch Fumiko the lowblood which can make all of my decision when wrongs. And then not long after that he conceded. Good game

Third Match : Jonsen Sulaeman - Gift's ungiven Control
1 st Round: Jonsen is an experienced player, he's an ex Top 4 of Indonesia's national championship a few years ago. This game starts very slow because I didn't get sakura tribe elder or Kodama's reach in my opening hand, but I cast out Ghostly prison and Honden of cleansing fire, and then continuously with Honden of Infinite Rage and Honden of Seeing wind, end up with 2 other ghostly prison, he cast Kokusho, the evening star but Final Judgment end up Kokusho's life. And then he was cast kodama's reach and sakura's tribe elder while he has sensei's divining top in play, I think he was looking ofr his wear away but it hasn't show up yet. I didn't do anything after my board is settled with those hondens and ghostly prison. When He got his wear away, my life was 38 and he start his combo with hana kami and soulless revival and wear away to rip off my honden's but time's up and my life was 42 at the time he just got a kagemaro,first to suffer in his board. And then start 5 consecutive round and then I asked him the same question Like the one I ask to Kai, but he said that he can kill me (42 Life in 3 turns with just kagemaro, wouw that's amazing I think if he can do it and he has pay the price to attack because 3 ghostly prison is still stands there) that means that I will lose but after 4 consecutive round, he said that he can't do it and my life was still 42, uh what a though match. Good game

(Editor note : I've been watching this particular opponent, most of his games are draws or 1-0 win at the last 5 turn after time called. Does the time limit really that short ? or we need a better time frame just for him ? )
Fourth match : “Amun” B/G control
I have to win in this match if I want to go to the top 8, but I think that it was the hardest match.
1 st round : I didn't remember so match in this game it just I cast out enduring ideal after I clean his board with final judgment and not long after that he conceded
Sideboard:
Nothing
He hasn't show up the real ability of his deck in the first round. I have think to send out reverence but I don't know what do I have to put to my main deck
2 nd Round : I starts with sakura tribe elder and the he cast sakura tribe elder too and then in the next round he cast out Infernal Kirin, a real nightmare, in the next round he cast out kodama's reach and catch my honden of infinite rage, 2 ghostly prison. After that he cast out ayumi, the last visitor if I'm not wrong the 7/3 Legendary landwalk. After that I cast enduring ideal in my next round but this is the part when I was wrong, I look for genju of the realm buat my land has tapped out, I cann't undo. And then he attack with both of his creature make my life down to 9. and then in the next upkeep after I think for a while, it's time for 3 rd round there's no point wasting out my time here. It's impossible or at least hard for me to win.

3 rd Round: He start with 2 nd turn time of need looking for kokusho but after thinking he changed into infernal Kirin , weks another nightmare. In the third round I already got 4 lands and cast out honden of night's reach to reduced his hand because I know this kind of deck is depend on card in his hand, or in other word, the card in his hand is the key, not the card in his board. In the next turn he cast out his kirin and then I answer with kodama's reach and Sensei's divining top and then next turn he cast some big creature but I answer with final judgment in my next turn (note: I have 2 final judgment in my hand that time, and I think he has 2/3 Kokusho in his hand). After that he cast some thing that I didn't remembered but not long after that I had honden of seeing wind and another honden in my board and he has kagemaro 1 st to suffer in his board and there is 2 sakura tribe elders in my board, but honden of night's reach not just catch kokusho in his hand but also reduced the power of kagemaro to 1/1 which is a vulberable and kit with my sakura tribe elder. And the he sac his kagemaro and I sac my sakura tribe elder as a respond, in the next round I cast honden of infinte rage and honden of life's web in the next round, and then he conceded and we shake hands.
2 – 0 - 2
Fifth dawn (ups match I mean): Evandra Tamzil – U/R Splice
I really need to win in this match to get into top 8, my spirit is burning, and my will to win is very big.
1 st match : I didn't know what deck he play the first time but after he cast no creatures and just keep damage me with lava spike and glacial ray I know what deck I'm dealing with and then luckily ire of kaminari wasn't in his opening hand or before I cast my enduring ideal to get me Honden of cleansing fire and the next upkeep honden of night's reach. And finally honden of infinite rage do the real damage.

What do u expect Final judgment to cath or ghostly prison to slow down if u're opponent doesn's have any creatures in his deck, so I just need to make my deck faster vefore ire of kaminari does the real damage to me.
2 nd match: This one start really fast, I cast out honden of nigh't reach in my third turn thanks for the help of sakura tribe elder while he was already cast 2 lava spike, and then I top decked honden of infinte rage and honden of cleansing fire continuously. And then he keep playing until his life was down to 0 because of patron of kitsune & rushing tide zubera.
3 – 0 – 2
This is what I need to get into top 8, but a thougher opponent was waiting in the top 8 match. After my match was finished I look at Yung – Yung calculated the points and waiting wheter he will Id with his opponent because both of their points is 9 and if they're id that's mean both of they're points will be 10. Finally he decided to ID because he already found out who was the top 8 and he didn't need to get 12 points to get into top 8, so we just waiting for one match, that was Victor VS Jonsen, the head Judge or other judge I don't know give them additional 5 minutes times because victor was once hit the tables because of some reasons, everybody there said that they're hear it but I don't hear when Vic hit the tables. Finnaly it ends up with Jonsen win the match, so he got into top 8.

Eriko Setiawan with his White weenie deck, Yung – Yung with his B/G splice eteheral haze control he said, Lucky Zaldy with his Mono red deck, jonsen Sulaeman with his Gift's ungiven 4 colour control deck, fandy Cendrawira with gift's ungiven too if I'm not wrong, Taufik with his White weenie deck, Steven Junaidy (I don't know about this guy deck), and Me with the hondens deck.
The pairing starts, I was paired with Lucky Zaldy.
Quarter Finals: Lucky “Tatang” Zaldy – Mono Red
His deck is a little bit strange if I could say, it isn's a sligh deck, or burn deck that kill with damage from yamabushi flame, glacial ray, lava spike. It isn't medium red too, he didn't use kumano I think, His deck is between all of them, he joined all of the aspect of what mono red can do, blazing shoal and ryusei as his friends.
1 st match: I go first, first drop forest,He cast 1 st turn frostling and I answer with sakura tribe elder and then he hesitate to attack, and then I sac my sakura tribe elder to get some plains and cast ghostly prison, the next turn he attack with frostling using blazing shoal removed ryusei from the game. And then not long after that I cast meloku and then continue with enduring ideal, and then he cast yamabushi's flames and sacrifice frostling to kill my meloku, but after that he didn't cast any creatures yet while I already have honden of infinte rage and cleansing fire on my board. He conceded after that

there are no use of reverence, he can cast out his blazing shoal to make his creature bigger. I think that the weakness of his deck was just the toughness almost all of his creatures is 1, but it just my guess
2 nd Round: similar like the first round I cast out ghostly prison buat in his next turn he drop cloudcrest lake?????? I was confused and he cast kami of ancient law which was nightmare, and then next round I cast kodama's reach and then he answer with long forgotten gohei (that's mean Nigh of soul betrayal is no use here), and I cast honden of infinite rage as an answer, but he give me more shock with Genju of the spires and forstling is already in play, that's mean 9 damage, and the next turn I cann't do anything and then the next round he do the same thing and then finish me with yamabushi flames in the next of his upkeep.

3 rd Round: I had to mulligan once and then I just had 1 land in my hand after paris Once but I had sensei divining top, but in some way I was always late 1 or 2 turns because I had to tap my sensei's divining top to get the land on the top of my deck while he as already do some serious damage with his heart kami and lava spike and also glacial ray to me, after my life was down to 4, and he got 2 heart kami in his board and then I want to cast sakura tribe elder to play that's mean I still got 1 more turn to live , and suddenly I Remembered that he till got 1 glacial ray in his hand, I don't need to wait to offer him a handshake, and I lost, that's it. Honden's trip was over here.
Not a very bad result for me I think, I got 2 SOK packs and 5 DCI lands. And finish in 7 th position if I'm not wrong. Maybe I don't remember that much in this tourney and the report is something missing it pieces and sometimes is not correct 100%. Btw Erico Setiawan was the winner of this GPT Taipei, he beat Yung – Yung in the finals. Congratulations to Eric. I hope that many more players will join in the next big event that was National Championship and may the best wins.
